Inventor of the cone
A Syrian named Ernest E Hamwi is believed to have invented the ice-cream cone.Apparently, during the 1904 St Louis World's Fair in the United States, his waffle booth was next to an ice-cream seller who ran short of dishes. As a favour, Hamwi rolled a waffle to hold his ice-cream and the cone was born.Over the years, other inventors have tweaked the original design to make the cone drip free.A "dripless cake cone" was invented in the 1930s. It was a larger bowl-shape which allowed the ice-cream to sit in the bottom of the cone rather than nestle on the top.Another invention - paper aprons - which were glorified napkins, were designed to catch any drips.
